Training Description:

This in-person training brings together My Community Cares (MCC) Civil Legal Attorneys and MCC stakeholders to strengthen the shared vision, practices, and impact of preventative civil legal advocacy in Louisiana. Through guided sessions led by judicial and legal leaders, participants will explore the foundational framework of the MCC civil legal advocacy initiative, the critical role of early civil legal intervention in keeping families safely together, and the practical strategies needed to ensure consistency in process, data collection, and outcome tracking across all sites.

Training Objectives:

  • Articulate the shared vision and unified goals of the MCC civil legal advocacy initiative, understanding how legal services support broader prevention strategies to reduce child welfare involvement.

  • Explain the legal foundation and practical importance of preventative civil legal advocacy, including common case types and their impact on family stability.

  • Identify and apply best practices for intake, referral, and case acceptance across jurisdictions, ensuring consistency and accountability.

  • Understand the role of data and storytelling in demonstrating program impact and identify key data points needed to capture legal services outcomes.

  • Collaborate on building a unified process for tracking legal issues, interventions, and outcomes (e.g., eviction prevention, safety planning, access to benefits).
