About This Training
The Court Improvement Program (CIP) of the Louisiana Supreme Court in partnership with the Pelican Center for Children and Families welcomes you to attend a virtual CIP Café featuring LEAF. LEAF was developed in 2019 by a coalition of dedicated young adults as a redesigned version of the LYLAC (Louisiana Youth Leadership Advisory Council) and currently serves as the official Louisiana State Youth Advisory Board.
LEAF's mission it to:
Advocate with current and former foster youth to unite voices, and
Change policies, laws, and perceptions in order to
Empower youth to become leaders and reach their full potential (ACE).
LEAF's vision is a world/community where every child has the right to safety, a loving home, permanency, and overall well-being in which they are able to build a successful future.
LEAF will provide a detailed overview and summary of Senate Bill 151-the first official Louisiana Foster Youth Bill of Rights. The driving force behind the Foster Youth Bill of Rights was to utilize negative experiences to facilitate positive changes for foster youth. The presenters will give examples of how the Bill should be implemented and enforced and ways that child welfare and legal stakeholders can work to fulfill these rights for all youth in care. Finally, participants will learn advocacy skills that youth and providers can utilize to promote youth rights.
This training is free, the applications have been approved for one hour of CEU's and the CLE has been approved for 1.0 hour of CLE , and is designed for all judges, private adoption attorneys, adoption agencies, clerks of court, and legal and child welfare stakeholders.
