About This Training
The Court Improvement Program (CIP) of the Louisiana Supreme Court in partnership with the Pelican Center for Children and Families welcomes you to attend a virtual CIP Café where parent “peer advocates” with lived experienced in child welfare will provide insight into ways that child welfare and legal stakeholders can improve parent engagement, support, and advocacy in Child in Need of Care (CINC) and Family Preservation Court cases.
Recent studies show that effective parent engagement can significantly improve outcomes for children and families involved in the child welfare system by, for example, expediting reunification. A peer advocate—a trained professional who was previously a parent in a child welfare case and then regained custody of his or her children—provides first-hand experience and emotional support to parents, helping to increase the chances for successful safety and permanency outcomes. In this CLE/CEU, participants will learn strategies for increasing parents’ involvement in appropriate services, building rapport, empowering parents, finding needed resources, and navigating challenges. Questions will be welcome and encouraged.
This training is free, has been approved for one hour of CEU's and the CLE has been approved for 1.0 hour of CLE , and is designed for all judges, private adoption attorneys, adoption agencies, clerks of court, and legal and child welfare stakeholders.
