You need an internet connection. It is not required that you have a camera set up. This session is not designed for audio-only participation.

This training is for parents, guardians, and caregivers of adolescents and preadolescents. Whether or not you are aware of their being on social media, they either are or probably will be. Today children are thoroughly documented, often before they are born. The line between public and private information is becoming more and more vague. Adolescents (and preadolescents) need help navigating this new and constantly changing world. They also need to learn to appreciate the value of their own personal information. In order to help them we need to understand social media ourselves, and come to terms with our own use (and abuse) of social media. At the conclusion of this presentation participants will understand the different types of social media and the impact it has on the lives of adolescents as will as their own, know some of the positive aspects of social media as well as the dangers, and be prepared to discuss social media as well as general screen times with young people in their lives.

Learning Objectives - At the conclusion of this presentation participants will:

1. Understand types of social media

2. Recognize the impact of social media on the lives of adolescents as well as our own

3. Discern both positive and negative aspects of social media

4. Be prepared for productive discussions about social media with the young people in their lives.
