The Strengthening Louisiana’s Children and Families: Solutions Summit aims to increase collaboration to improve outcomes for Louisiana’s children and families. This free Summit will convene community-based providers and school, juvenile justice, and FINS representatives to share and learn best practices for community-based prevention and intervention and generate proactive strategies that support children and families while preventing involvement in child welfare and delinquency systems. Two tracks will be provided at the Summit: (1) School and Juvenile Justice Partnership Track and (2) Family Well-Being Track.
(1) School and Juvenile Justice Partnership Track (SJJP)
With significant increases in Louisiana’s truancy rate and the number of children entering foster care and the juvenile delinquency system, a call to action and collaboration among school and juvenile justice system professionals is critical. The forging of local partnerships is critical to improve school conduct and attendance outcomes, maintain safe schools, proactively address the student engagement crisis, and mitigate child welfare and juvenile justice system involvement escalation. Superintendents, child welfare and attendance supervisors, principals, law enforcement, truancy/probation officers, judges, juvenile services and detention center representatives, Truancy and Assessment Service Centers (TASC), and Family in Need of Services (FINS) will become familiar with best practice programs and resources that improve outcomes for students, share ideas and experiences, and create strategies and solutions to improve student attendance, behavior, and engagement and family stability in their specific jurisdictions.
(2) Family Well-Being Track (FWB)
Many Louisiana families are experiencing stressors that impact the well-being of their children, the family as a whole, and the community. Families need a connection to meaningful supports and services. The goal of the Family Well-Being Track is to highlight available programs and services that are offered throughout the state that not only address needs but also foster opportunities for children and families to thrive, and essentially promote hope and resilience in children and families. The Summit is an opportunity for social workers, counselors, education officials, child welfare and child support leaders, and child and family-serving entities to leverage services and supports, explore best practices, and create alignment and effective partnerships to increase family independence and overall well-being for children and families. Attendees will have the opportunity to create strategies and solutions to support children and families in their respective communities.
