Navigating Waivers: Accessing Services & Supports - 10 am to 12 pm

This workshop is for youth and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families who want to understand how to access services and supports for adult life.

In this interactive session, participants will learn what a Medicaid waiver is, why people may need one, and how waivers help pay for important services that support independent living. We will talk about different Louisiana waivers, how the application process works, what the SUN score means, and who can help along the way.

Participants will also explore how waiver services can support housing, daily living needs, employment goals, and overall health and wellbeing. We will review how to access healthcare services, understand basic insurance concepts, and identify helpful community resources and professional contacts.

This workshop breaks down complex information into simple, practical steps — empowering individuals and families to understand their options, ask the right questions, and take action.

Your future starts with knowing what supports are available to you.

Planning for the Future: Housing, Independence, and Life Planning - 1 pm to 3 pm

This workshop is for youth and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families who want to explore options and prepare for independent adult life.

In this interactive session, participants will learn about different housing options such as living with family, supported apartments, or group homes. We will discuss how to think about future living arrangements, what supports may be needed, and who can help with making housing decisions and finding local resources.

Participants will also explore the skills needed to live more independently, including managing daily routines, understanding personal responsibilities, and planning for long-term support. Through guided discussion and activities, learners will practice identifying questions to ask when considering housing choices and how to plan for the future with confidence.

This workshop provides practical information and simple tools to help individuals and families start meaningful conversations about housing, independence, and long-term planning.

About the guest speaker:

Taylor Roberts Roane, M.S.Ed., BCBA, LBA

Taylor Roane was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. She attended Dominican High School and graduated from Louisiana State University with an undergraduate degree in Psychology. While at LSU, she worked under various professors who introduced her to the field of Applied Behavior Analysis. This is where she ultimately decided to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. After moving back to New Orleans to be near family, she was able to provide ABA to her local community while completing her Master’s Degree in Special Education with an emphasis on Applied Behavioral Analysis. She began to work for Autism Spectrum Therapies in 2011 as a behavior technician before receiving her BCBA and becoming a supervisor with the company. While at AST, Taylor has held many positions; trainer, supervisor, behavioral consultant, and director. Currently, she is overseeing the community services for the Baton Rouge area, Northshore area, and Southshore area.

Empowerment and Protection: Increasing Awareness and Action Against Abuse in the IDD Community

Team Dynamics, LLC is collaborating with the Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council to offer the Taking Action Against Abuse is an interactive workshop. This workshop is designed to equip individuals with IDD, caregivers, families, and community partners with the knowledge and skills to recognize, prevent, and respond to abuse and neglect. This session will cover the definitions and signs of abuse, the importance of self-advocacy, and practical steps for reporting and intervention. Participants will engage in activities, discussions, and exercises to strengthen their ability to take protective action. By fostering awareness, confidence, and collaboration, this training empowers individuals with IDD and their support networks to create safer, more supportive environments.

About the speakers:

Sharon Delvisco, DSW, has over 30 years of experience supporting, educating, and providing technical assistance to people with disabilities to live and work in the community, their families, their service providers. She has received the Mentorship Award, the Humanitarian Award, and the Education Award from the American Association of Intellectual Disabilities Louisiana Chapter. She also received the Professional Advocate Award from the Advocacy Center in Louisiana. She has served on FPHSA Regional Advisory Committee and State OCDD Advisory Committee. Sharon is the parent of a young man that has IDD. She has lived experience as a person with long-term, persistent, chronic mental illness. Sharon is also a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Dr. Rebecca Mandal-Blasio is the Clinical Director in Louisiana for Autism Spectrum Therapies and is a BCBA-D. She leads a team of BCBA Supervisors and Behavior Interventionists serving families in and around the New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and the Florida Parishes areas. A Louisiana native, Dr. Mandal-Blasio received her Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi and completed her pre-doctoral internship at the Kennedy Krieger Institute of Johns Hopkins School of Medicine as part of the Neurobehavioral Outpatient Unit and Pervasive Developmental Disorders Clinic. She also completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill's Center for Development and Learning where she studied mental health issues in people with developmental disabilities across the lifespan.

Preparing for Employment: Skills, Opportunities, and Support - 10 am to 12 pm

This workshop is for youth and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families who want to prepare for the world of work and explore pathways to meaningful employment.

In this fun and interactive session, participants will learn why having a job is important and how employment can help build independence, earn income, and create opportunities to connect with others. We will talk about what employers look for in employees and practice important workplace skills such as communication, teamwork, responsibility, and problem-solving.

Participants will also explore different types of jobs that match their interests and strengths, while learning practical steps for finding and applying for work. Through hands-on activities, learners will practice creating a simple resume, preparing for job interviews, and understanding how to ask for help or workplace accommodations when needed.

This workshop provides practical tools, encouragement, and real-world strategies to help participants feel confident, prepared, and excited about their future in the workforce.

Health & Wellbeing: Practical Tips for Everyday Life - 1 pm to 3 pm

This workshop is for youth and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families who want to build healthy habits and feel confident managing their health in adult life.

In this interactive session, participants will learn about balanced nutrition, simple physical activity, and practical strategies for supporting mental health and emotional wellbeing. We will talk about how daily choices impact overall health and explore small, realistic steps that can make a big difference.

Participants will also learn how to access healthcare services, understand basic health insurance concepts, prepare for doctor’s visits, and communicate their needs clearly. We will review helpful tools, community resources, and professional contacts that support long-term health and independence.

This workshop breaks down important health information into simple, practical steps — empowering individuals and families to make informed decisions, advocate for their needs, and build lifelong healthy habits.

Where will I live? Learn about different housing choices, like living with family, in a group home, or in a supported apartment. We will talk about who can help you make these decisions and where to find resources.

How do I take care of myself and my home? Practice daily living skills like routines, chores, and meal planning. Learn what you can do on your own and when to ask for help.

How do I get a job? Explore your strengths and interests. Learn the steps to find and apply for a job. Talk about supports that can help you succeed at work.

This workshop is interactive, easy to understand, and focused on helping you feel confident and prepared for adulthood. Your future starts with a plan!
